If you require dentures you will need a prescription from your dentist. You can contact us and we would be more than happy to put you in touch with one of our partner practices.

Please don’t do this! The glue melts the edges of the acrylic (the denture base material) and makes it a lot harder (if not impossible) for us to repair. The glue is also very harmful and could make you unwell.

Usually you will need three/four visits to your dentist for your dentures to be finalized. Most dentures are completed in approximately three to four weeks.

Once your new dentures are fitted we recommend a review with your dentist 1-2 weeks after the fit. We then advise yearly check-ups with your dentist to assess your general oral health. Your dentist will also be able to check that your dentures are still fitting well and give them a clean and polish. If you have some of your own natural teeth then you should visit your dentist for regular check-ups to maximise the retention of your remaining natural teeth.

The choice is yours! If you would like your new dentures to look the same as your existing teeth then we can achieve that for you – these are called copy dentures. However, some patients like to change the colour or shape of their dentures to give a more natural look. If your dentures are quite old then a new set will automatically provide more support for the facial muscles and help give you a more youthful look…. think of it like botox without the injections!

Dentures can be difficulty to get used to at first. This is because the muscles of your mouth and tongue need to find new positions to produce the same sound. You may notice a lisp for 2 weeks but the more you keep the dentures in and try to talk then the quicker this will resolve. Wearing a new pair dentures is similar to wearing a new pair of shoes as they need to be worn in until they’re comfortable. Dentures can cause an increase in saliva production for a few days, which can affect your speech. Sipping water often helps thin down saliva and you’ll also find that you can improve the situation by simply swallowing more often.

We do not recommend you wear your dentures at night as it can lead to fungal infections. Think of it like wearing shoes in bed, your feet can’t breathe and you risk getting an infection. However, we completely understand that some patients may feel embarrassed about removing their dentures. If this is the case then you may prefer to soak your dentures in an appropriate cleaning solution before you go to bed allowing you to wear clean dentures while sleeping

In the short-term it may feel strange when you eat, but it won’t be long before things improve. To start with you should avoid tough/sticky foods and take smaller bites while you get used to your new bite and tooth position. Try to chew on both sides of your mouth at the same time, and chew up and down as opposed to side to side.

It may take some time for your mouth to get used to your new dentures, so they may not feel totally secure when you initially start to eat; this is because the muscles need to learn and develop around the new denture. A denture adhesive is an effective way to secure your denture. Denture adhesives can be found in our shop.

Sore spots can be caused by loose dentures or dentures that do not fit correctly. If this is the case then book an appointment with us to check the fit and health of your dentures and we can put you in contact with a partner dental practice. Other causes may be hard foods such as seeds or nuts getting under the denture, or too much clenching of the teeth. Ensure you remove and clean your dentures after every meal.
